January 2026
My second dissertation chapter is accepted at GBE! It's been a long winter of applying to faculty positions and trying to plan for my future in science when everything is so uncertain, so this is welcome news!

I had an incredible and rewarding time doing lemur fieldwork in Ranomafana National Park in Madagascar with our extended collaborative team of folks at Oregon State, University of Kentucky, and SUNY Binghamton. At a time when US science is under attack, this month in the field was restorative for me. I also presented at the International Primatology Society conference in Antananarivo, Madagascar, and had so much fun getting to know the primate research world.

After a brief stop back home in New England for my sister's PhD graduation, I'm back in Florida and am now a courtesy faculty member in the Department of Biology at the University of Central Florida. I'm continuing to work with my dissertation advisor Anna Savage, wrapping up side projects from my PhD, and of course starting new projects 😉

I've started my postdoc with Katie Everson in the Department of Integrative Biology at Oregon State University. I'm on-site in Corvallis, OR for four months getting to know the team before I switch to remote work back in sunny Florida. I have an office!
I've met so many great people here in IB and fallen in love with the Pacific Northwest (including touching the Pacific Ocean for the first time!)

I'm officially Dr. Martin! I successfully defended my dissertation, On Immunogenomic Evolution and Disease in Marine Turtles, on Halloween 2024. Everyone including my committee dressed up!!

Happy birthday to me--I have a postdoc offer! Time to defend... 😊
